Internet Spam Filter:

Why You Need an Internet Spam Filter

Are you wondering why you need an Internet spam filter? I once read a story long ago about a mailman that would keep all the junk mail that was destined for the houses on his route. Every weekday he only delivered bills and letters, the items marked “To the Householder” and the like were set aside. All the people on his route liked his approach although they knew the inevitable was coming. Saturday was the day the stored offers were finally delivered. Mailboxes would be crammed full of what the carrier was required to deliver, but he helped by sorting them and delivering them all together. An Internet spam filter works the same way, to a degree. There are certain words and phrases that the software looks for, as well as return addresses that are known for sending the “junk e-mails” out.

Why do People Send out Junk E-mails?

Well, first, you must realize that it doesn’t cost any more money to e-mail a thousand addresses than it does to e-mail one hundred. Hence spam is escalating as a problem. People send out junk mail in the hope that enough people will click on the links, arrive at their web sites and maybe even buy their products or services.

How does an Internet Spam Filter Work?

The software diverts the identified “junk” from your Inbox and keeps it in a separate area that you can peruse at your own leisure. You can decide to allow the software to delete them when the spam arrives, or leave them for a period of days in case you wanted to see if anything you wanted slid accidentally into the “not worth your time” box. It would be like taking the garbage can out to the mailbox every Saturday and trusting the mailman to sort everything perfectly.

How do you get Spam?

Most of the time, spam begins to show up once your e-mail has been posted somewhere that the spammer’s software can detect it. Once you are in the database, the incidents of spam headed to your Inbox will only increase and so therefore will your need for an Internet spam filter. If for some reason you ever answer the spam, by accident or on purpose, your e-mail address is then a known and verified commodity. Spammers trade e-mail lists with every day. It doesn’t take much to realize that that kind of assault on your Inbox would drive you nuts and send you screaming in search of an Internet spam filter.

Internet Spam Filters Save Time and Effort

The best avoidance method for spam is to change your e-mail address on a regular basis. This, of course, is far more of a hassle than deleting a full Inbox of junk mail every morning that your Internet spam filter netted up for you. Thus, an Internet spam filter eases the stress of the day, as well as keeping you or your family from seeing the unsavory images that come embedded in some of the e-mails, at minimal cost or even free.
